Overview of Veritas Net Backup

Veritas Net Backup is an enterprise backup and recovery software that supports major operating systems such as Windows, UNIX, and Linux, along with databases like Oracle, Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB. It allows organizations to back up files, directories, and partitions efficiently and recover them when needed. Backups are handled through clients that send data to media servers, which manage storage allocation.




Core Functionality

The platform supports internal, external, and cloud storage, including Microsoft Azure and VMware environments. It provides services like deduplication, replication, and snapshots. The OpsCenter Analytics tool, requiring a separate license, enables monitoring and reporting of backup performance and usage across the network.



Veritas Net Backup License Key features

Version 8.0 and subsequent updates added support for Windows Server 2016, VMware vSphere 6.5, remote office backups, Net Backup Accelerator for Hyper V, and advanced NDMP backup for Dell EMC Isilon. Integrated appliances offer scalable storage from 4 TB to 1.92 PB.




History

Originating in 1987 as AWBUS under Control Data, the software evolved into Net Backup through acquisitions by OpenVision, Veritas, and Symantec before returning to Veritas management.
