Introduction to Wallix License and Deployment Options

Wallix is a French cybersecurity company founded in 2003, specializing in Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions. Its core product, Wallix Bastion, is designed to help organizations control, monitor, and secure privileged accounts across IT environments.

Wallix Bastion is available in two deployment models: Virtual Appliance and Physical Appliance. The physical version is delivered as pre configured hardware, typically based on standard enterprise servers.

However, organizations selecting this model depend on vendor support for hardware related issues. In contrast, the virtual appliance can be deployed on existing virtualization infrastructure, offering the same functionality without dedicated hardware dependency. Many organizations prefer virtualization because it enables easier backup, disaster recovery, and system restoration while reducing hardware risks.

Wallix License Structure and Key Parameters

To purchase a Wallix license (Bastion software), several factors must be defined in advance:

  • Number of managed assets
  • Number of users
  • Number of concurrent sessions
  • License validity period

For the Access Manager add on, licensing is typically based on concurrent sessions and validity period.

The Wallix license activates essential PAM capabilities such as privileged account discovery, password rotation, session monitoring, and activity auditing. Licensing flexibility allows organizations to align the solution with their infrastructure size and security requirements.

Core Components of the Wallix System

The Wallix system mainly consists of two components:

1. Bastion Software
The central PAM platform responsible for password vaulting, session recording, access control, and audit logging. It supports secure connections to servers without requiring agents or major configuration changes.

2. Access Manager (AM)
A centralized access gateway that consolidates connections through HTTPS, supports integration with Active Directory and SAML, and enables advanced auditing features such as session search and OCR-based analysis.

Overall, Wallix provides a structured approach to privileged access management, helping organizations strengthen internal security governance while maintaining operational efficiency.
