Tenable Security Center Plus Tenable SC software is a
comprehensive product designed for organizations with large computer
networks.
In recent years, the need for reliable and comprehensive vulnerability
assessment solutions has increased significantly across enterprise networks.
Among the leading providers in this domain, Tenable has maintained a strong
position due to its long standing experience in developing security and
vulnerability management technologies.
The company initially gained recognition through the Nessus
scanner and later expanded its capabilities with the introduction of Tenable
Security Center Plus (TSC+), which is widely used for continuous vulnerability
identification and network security monitoring. Today, nearly half of Fortune
500 organizations rely on Tenable products for enterprise level risk assessment. A structured overview of the

Tenable License Types and Functional Components
The Tenable SC Plus license is delivered as a .lic file
under the customer’s name and is priced according to the number of assets typically ranging from 500 to
30,000 devices as
well as the subscription duration, which may span from one to five years. This
license is not restricted to a single installation and can be deployed multiple
times across infrastructure environments. The Director license is also provided
as a .lic file and must accurately correspond to the total number of devices
monitored across all TSC instances under its management. This license follows
the same one to five
year subscription model. For organizations requiring web application
assessment, the WAS license is issued based on the number of FQDNs and is
generally used alongside the TSC+ license.
Several activation based licenses are used for Tenable’s additional components. The Nessus Scanner license is issued as an activation code and supports an unlimited number of scanners connected under TSC+. The license pricing is solely determined by subscription duration.
The Nessus Network Monitor (NNM) license
also uses online activation and supports unlimited NNM instances within TSC+.
Each NNM is capable of analyzing up to 10 GB of network traffic, and its
pricing depends on the selected subscription term. The Nessus Manager (NM)
license is required when an organization employs agent based scanning. It is provided as an activation code and
priced according to the number of NM instances needed and the subscription
timeframe.
Deployment Models and Operational Architecture
Tenable Security Center Plus operates as an on premises vulnerability management platform that continuously identifies assets, analyzes risk exposure, and provides detailed reporting through customizable dashboards. Its ecosystem includes several sensors and add ons that enhance coverage across different network layers. The Nessus Scanner performs active vulnerability assessment and is available in Professional and Expert editions.
The Nessus Managed Scanner add on handles plugin distribution and updates for all
connected scanners across network zones. NNM, functioning as a passive security
component, inspects network traffic in real time to detect devices,
applications, and associated vulnerabilities. WAS focuses on application layer analysis by identifying risks
within websites and web based
services. For deployments involving multiple TSC+ instances, the Director
add on enables centralized oversight and coordination.
TSC+ supports two deployment models according to organizational structure and security policies. In the traditional model, multiple Nessus scanners are installed across different network segments, each responsible for scanning its designated zone and sending results directly to the central console. In the agent based model, Agents are installed on individual endpoints servers, workstations, or other nodes to conduct assessments.
These Agents communicate with
Nessus Manager, which aggregates and forwards the collected data to TSC+. This
approach is particularly suitable for distributed environments or networks with
limited direct connectivity.
